Daily Itinerary for 7-night photography workshop in Costa Rica

Day 1, Saturday, 12 January
Arrive into San Jose, Costa Rica where you will be met and escorted to AmaTierra Lodge. Dinner and introductions.

Day 2, Sunday, 13 January
We will meet for breakfast in the dining area and discuss our first journey. We will then make our way to an organic coffee farm where we will have the opportunity to photograph the production of a major exported crop. Artisans may also be there and we will try to capture them as they create baskets and hats used in the field when picking the coffee beans. There are numerous opportunities here to get into the rhythm of photographing Costa Rica. In the afternoon we will travel back to AmaTierra with a side excursion into Santiago de Puriscal if time permits. We will have dinner at our lodging and then meet for class in the early evening. Our discussion tonight will be on photographic basics and pursuing the art of nature and travel photography. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 3, Monday 14 January
Today we will travel to Turubari Tropical Park to enjoy and photograph the beauty of the Costa Rican rainforest. We will spend the entire day here making photographs of butterflies, flowers, and the lush greenery. We will enjoy a traditional buffet lunch and then take a canopy tour. Enjoy a well deserved dinner this evening at AmaTierra. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 4, Tuesday 15 January
The morning is free to enjoy yourself by taking a dip in the pool or exploring the nearby areas for photographic opportunities. In the afternoon we have an optional horseback ride through fabulous mountain and ocean scenery. We may come across farmland and local caballeros working with their horses and oxen. Other pastoral scenes await our lens on this leisurely ride. Breakfast and Dinner

Day 5, Wednesday 16 January
Early morning excursion to a nearby thermal hot springs and waterfall. Return to AmaTierra where we will have a discussion about marketing and showing your work. We will also go over our journey for tomorrow to Carara National Park. Later in the afternoon I will work with individuals who want to present a small body of work and discuss personal goals with you concerning your photography. Breakfast and Dinner

Day 6, Thursday 17 January
We will rise early to travel to Carara National Park about one hour away from the lodge. Here we may see and photograph numerous wild animals and the beautiful surroundings of the park. Late afternoon we will return to AmaTierra. Breakfast and Dinner

Day 7, Friday 18 January
This morning we will head to Jaco Beach to photograph the different environment. This is a bustling place with many opportunities for creative imagery. Along the way we will have time to shop for last minute items. If there is time we may also stop at a secluded cove for a quiet look at nature. We will travel back to the lodge and prepare for a critique session of the week’s images. (Or, if you are shooting film, bring a few of your best images to show the group.) We will celebrate with a farewell dinner and a shared hope to return to this wonderful land very soon. Breakfast and Dinner

Day 8, Saturday 19 January
Transfer to the airport in San Jose for your international flight home. Bon voyage and happy photographing! Breakfast

We reserve the right to alter the trip as necessary. (There may be festivals that we will want to shoot as an impromptu excursion.)
