Greetings from AmaTierra!
A hint of earthy rain is in the air and the South American birds have replaced the ones who have flown north. Birdwatchers are excited with three new pair of Toucans nesting here (see the Aracari in photo), and it is time for planting our vegetables in the new greenhouse.
We hope your summer plans will include us! AmaTierra is a versatile place. Come for a workshop where you can learn something new, come for yoga, or just come to hang out, have a vacation and go on an adventure in this amazing country. The Green season is a great time of year in Costa
Rica, with sunny mornings and life-giving rains in the afternoon. Our vacation packages make it all affordable and do-able. Check out the Day Tripper or Happy Healthy Holiday.

New Additions: Tilapia are swimming in the pond
With pure water come delicious fish! Cuco and Jorge have dredged the pond and new baby "semillas" (means "seed" and applies to animals too)are going in. As part of the ecosystem, Talapia are there to eat the bugs AND the soil we pulled from the pond is "muy rico." Now we just need some oxen (yes, oxen!) to bring the dirt up the mountain to use in the greenhouse.

Happenings: Spanish Dancers
Costa Rican Caballeros are very proud of their Spanish dancing horses. Nearly every pueblo's festivals include "Tope," as the sport is called. San Pablo's "tope" parade helped raise money for a community center for the elderly.

RainForest Herbs
Wild Cilantro, or "coyote" works in a pinch when the kitchen runs out of the regular, delicate-leafed version. Cilantro, like many other culinary herbs, aids in digestion. Its nature is cooling, and we use it in our mango salsa, our "gallo pinto", the traditional rice and bean combo at breakfast.

How Sweet it is!
|

The perfect mango, sweet, juicy, and delicious! AmaTierra has over 60 mango trees, 3 different varieties. Costa Ricans like to eat them green, with lemon and salt.
But oh, those ripe ones, the "maduros"...heaven.

The 200 pineapple plants we put in one year ago are beginning to fruit! Generally these fruits take two years, but we have a few early bloomers on the hillside. Yum! |
