Greetings from AmaTierra Costa Rica!
On a recent trip to the US we were surprised to see Newsweek Magazine's headlines "Travel 2007:Slow is Beautiful." It seems that the faster people's lives spin, the more they yearn for a getaway which restores their energy and allows them to settle in to new surroundings at a slower, more enjoyable pace. A slow guy: 2-toed sloth only comes down from his tree once a week.
Taking time to really absorb the beauty and culture of a place like Costa Rica, to follow a butterfly with your eyes, to notice how bony and long-eared the Brahma cows look, to savor every bite of a mango fresh from a tree-- these are enriching experiences, and they serve to bring us back to our true selves. When things move more slowly, we can all let down our guard. Sharing dinner on the balcony here at AmaTierra we are always amazed at the spectrum and the richness of our guests' stories. A honeymoon couple tells of their traditional Indian wedding with a mere 1000 guests; a brilliant Green Beret gives us his take on the Iraq war. A humble man who plays flamenco guitar serenades us and speaks lovingly of his father who taught him to play, and has just passed on. A precocious, curly-haired nine year old talks of the different species of monkeys she has seen so far on her journey. We listen, we ponder, we laugh, we enjoy each other, our common humanity and our differences.
As AmaTierra morphs into becoming the wellness center we envision, more group retreats are being scheduled. Along with "slow travel," you may want to consider traveling to learn or experience something new, or to hone some skills that you already have. Photography, Yoga, Tai Chi, and even a New Year's Detox week are among your many choices.
See below for our up-coming retreats, recent happenings, and Bob's music picks. We wish you a slow and lazy summer, and hope to see you very soon here at AmaTierra. Call us at 1-888-659-3805 or visit www.amatierra.com

New Additions: The GREENhouse! Organic, por supuesto...
"All things grow with Love" ...reads the sign on AmaTierra's new greenhouse. After just 7 weeks of growth the tomatoes are flowering and taller than our shoulders; yellow squash grows two inches a day, and the basil, ah, the basil...
Cuco and Jorge, our gardening wizards, do an amazing job
building and maintaining our organic soil and plants. Jill tromps
around there in her mud boots most mornings, but it's the guys who
do most of the work, and we all get to eat the freshest produce ever!
