| "There are voices in the rain"
Tim Flood, a guest from Arizona, laughed when we told him of these voices in the rain, until one afternoon when the rain washed the roof of his casita and he turned to answer a voice that spoke his name, but there was nobody there. Metal roof? Stretching sounds when warm meets wet? Whatever the cause, we listen, and we are like children, enthralled with...voices in the rain.

Remember to
Meditate!
Dr. Dharma Singh-Khalsa of Tucson, AZ
presented a brand new study TODAY, June 11, which he says "confirms what
we have been observing in clinical practice for many years, that meditation is
one of the most
effective tools to address memory loss". Meditation enables the brain to actually
strengthen itself, and battle the processes working to weaken it. If this kind
of meditation is helping patients with memory loss,"
says Andrew Newberg of the U Penn study. "We are
encouraged by the prospects that daily practice may even prevent
neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's."

Remembering Allan
We at AmaTierra are sad to report the passing of Allan Bayer, a founding partner and friend. Allan was a pioneer psychiatrist, founder of an innovative community, Rivendell, for troubled teens in northern California in the 1970's. He was a Buddhist and supporter of Friends of Tibet who helped bring the Dalai Lama to Tucson in 2005. A lover of knowledge, Allan always had a book in his hand, was endlessly open and curious with much to share. We had hoped he would take charge of AmaTierra's library. A Jacaranda tree has been planted at AmaTierra in his memory. Its brilliant violet flowers will remind us of the violet light of meditation, and of the crown chakra where it is said that Divine energy comes through. Perhaps it will also remind us to meditate. We are grateful to have known Allan Bayer, and for his input and support of AmaTierra.
