Meet our partners!

AmaTierra, LLC is a community of investors who believe in the vision of a peaceful haven for rest and rejuvenation which has as its foundation the beauty of the tropics and builds upon that magnificence with the tenets of natural health and healing. Together, these exceptional people form the backbone of this very special place called AmaTierra. If you wish to join our investment community, there are still a few spots available. Please direct serious inquiries to Bob or Jill Ruttenberg. (see contact page).

Alan Bayer, invester / owner: Alan is a retired psychiatrist and medical doctor
Alan Bayer: Alan, who, sadly, passed on in the spring of 2007, was a forward-thinking psychiatrist and medical doctor. In the 70's Alan founded Rivendell, an alternative treatment facility for troubled teens in northern California. He also played the saxophone in jazz clubs in the bay area, and raised three sons who are now our new partners: a sea captain involved in pollution control in San Francisco, an engineer, and a third grade school teacher. Alan was also a practicing Buddhist who helped partner Peggy Hitchcock to bring the Dalai Lama to Tucson in 2005. A soft-spoken lover of knowledge, Alan was seldom seen without a book in his hand, and was endlessly open and curious with much to share. We had hoped Alan would take charge of developing AmaTierra's library, but we will think of him each time we reach for a book from the bookcase.

A Jacaranda tree has been planted at AmaTierra in Alan's memory. Its brilliant violet flowers will remind us of the violet light of meditation, and of the crown chakra where it is said that Divine energy enters the body. Perhaps the purple flowers will also remind us to meditate! We are grateful to have known Alan and for his input and support of AmaTierra.

David Case, Investor - Case Enterprises in Massachusetts is a visionary developer dedicated to sustainable building and respect for the land

David Case (pictured here in the middle) of Case Enterprises in Massachusetts is a visionary developer dedicated to sustainable building and respect for the land. One of his major accomplishments is the community of Civano in Tucson. He and his wife Mary practice yoga and meditation and have three beautiful children. David brings to us his experience in business, real estate, partnerships and land development and will oversee the creation of the 3 bedroom house, yoga studio and treatment building soon to come at AmaTierra.

AmaTierra Investor Linda Drew, Builder

Linda Drew, lender/investor, is someone we call the “pioneer woman” because of her pioneer lineage and willingness to push into spaces that no woman has gone before. She created her own mud and straw-bale home, the first of its kind to have a permit in northern California. It has been featured in magazines, and is completely solar, off the grid and her outdoor shower feeds a fabulous garden. Linda is a writer and playwright in addition to teaching people about sustainable living. She brings her smile, her knowledge of the earth and the animals, and her endless creativity to our project.

John Jennings, lender/investor, is Linda’s partner who lives in the mountains of northern California. John is an accomplished singer/ songwriter and guitarist who has played with the best of San Francisco bands for decades. He is also a painter, metal sculptor and graphic artist who now spends most of his time in his home studio playing and recording music. John, who has one son, two daughters and three grandchildren, will (he better!) bring his guitar and play to the rhythm of the tree frogs and birds of the forest when he comes to Costa Rica.

AmaTierra investor Tony Madden
Tony Madden, Nicknamed by Bob and Andy (his golfing friends) as “Lord Madden”, Tony comes to us from “across the pond.” He lives in east London in a lovely home kept mostly by his wife Edie who also keeps him on track when she’s not off riding her horse through the English countryside. Tony is a jolly soul with a great sense of humor, and has been in the insurance brokering business for many years. We hope he and Edie will visit often and keep us laughing!

Paul Rollins and Jan Moran are pioneers who influenced the development of the environmentally innovative Community of Civano

Paul Rollins and Jan Moran are pioneers who influenced the development of (and now reside in) the environmentally innovative Community of Civano, in Tucson, Arizona. Paul, with his North Carolina drawl, is our favorite storyteller. He pulls out all the stops in his forthright and illuminating spinning of real-life tales. He's been around the block and around the world as he showed me on the flight map during our plane ride to Costa Rica. A devoted UNC Tar Heel basketball fan, a former Navy Hurricane Hunter pilot (ask him the story, it's amazing!) and Pan Am pilot who dropped out for a few years in Big Sur, California to be a leather craftsman and hang out with Ram Dass. Shall I go on? Nah, we'll let Paul tell the stories...and we can't wait to sit on the balcony at AmaTierra and hear them!

Paul's partner, Jan Moran, was most recently Marketing Director for Civano. For many years she provided marketing for Kripalu Center in Lenox, Massachusetts, the largest holistic health center in North America. She has coached many people, including dozens of holistic health practitioners, in finding their passion and bringing it to the marketplace. Paul and Jan are longtime friends of David Case and Bob and Jill.

International investors in resort hotel Amatierra in Costa Rica

Ron Horn and Nancy Swain live and play in Tucson, Arizona and love to travel. We met them for the first time recently at AmaTierra and were fired up by their immediate enthusiasm for our mission and goals. As free spirits, Ron and Nancy recognize the importance of protecting our fragile and precious environment and believe it is equally important to help people create healthy bodies and minds so they can become strong individuals who can get out there and raise our collective consciousness.

Ron is retired after many years in the commercial aerospace industry and raising a family of three. He now focuses on his lifelong passion for songwriting and produces music in his home studio. He and Bob could have stayed up all night talking music! Nancy has worked for many years in commercial property and facilities management and currently performs research for a law firm and edits a weekly online inspirational newsletter. Ron and Nancy’s circle of friends is ever-growing, and their enthusiasm for AmaTierra is both contagious and extremely helpful in creating momentum for the project.
