"Great Views Outside of Puriscal" A TripAdvisor Member, March 2008

"The yoga class was great and the sunset view of the mountain view was absolutely spectacular; when that studio is done it will probably have one of the best locations in the country..."  Read the full review.

AmaTierra also offers excursions to some of Costa Rica's finest attractions. We'll help you visit the stunning Pacific beaches (less than 1 hour away), the hot springs beneath Arenal Volcano and the ecological parks that make up 30% of this fabulous country.

From AmaTierra, you can choose to explore the beaches, parks, hot springs or nearby towns on day trips, or stay put for a relaxing and rejuvenating retreat. See our in-house special packages for 3,5, or 7 night stays, or choose to make AmaTierra a part of an extended Costa Rican tour. Let the staff at AmaTierra help you make your Costa Rican vacation dreams a tangible, wonderful reality.

Costa Rica festivals are part of the local cultural experience

Enjoy local festivals (and Costa Ricans LOVE their fiestas!) where you can sample "typical" food and watch the "caballos trotadores" Spanish dancing horses or bullriding events in nearby San Pablo or Puriscal. Tour a local organic coffee farm, watch the one-truck produce market in action on a Saturday morning, and see how tobacco is cured at a local cigar factory.

Costa Rica festivals fun for the whole family

A birdwatcher's haven, AmaTierra's 3 hectares of mountain forest is home to 2 kinds of Toucans and hundreds of varieties of birds and butterflies. A stream, hiking trails with stunning views, dozens of mango trees and reforested Pochote hardwood are all part of the ecology here. Committed to rainforest conservation and sustainable agriculture, herbalist owner Jill Ruttenberg has created an organic garden and an atmosphere of discovery for learning about tropical plants. Slowly, AmaTierra is also becoming a state-of-the-art wellness center with integrated natural therapies for true rejuvenation.

The rural setting of AmaTierra allows you to learn about the Costa Rica typical lifestyle

Experience the authentic
Tico rural life

At AmaTierra guests can glimpse Tico life in a traditional "campo" rural setting, authentically Costa Rican. Here it is not uncommon to encounter cowboys herding Brahma cows down the road, and perhaps to take part yourself in herding cows on a horseback ride through breathtaking mountain vistas.

AmaTierra. is ideal for honeymoon couples, families and active people of all ages who desire a more intimate travel experience, as well as those who wish a yoga or meditation retreat and a time to reflect and rejuvenate in an ecologically balanced part of the world.

Directions

AmaTierra, Costa Rica
From San Jose or Juan Santamaria Airport, take the road to Ciudad Colon. Once you're in Ciudad Colon, look out for a sign saying "no hay paso" that means you're going on to a one way street. Instead turn right at the gas station and left at the next street. Continue on, and follow the signs for Santiago de Puriscal and for Turrubares. When you get to Puriscal, (about 20 min.) take the road leading to San Pablo de Turrubares. The hotel is located 19 kilometers after you exit Puriscal on the main road, on your right hand side, two kilometers before you reach San Pablo de Turrubares. Follow signs to TURUBARI Park.  It is easy to find and the road is paved the entire way - simply look for the long bamboo fence and wooden gate. If the gate is closed, just honk and the guard will open the gate.

From the Pacific Coast or North - look in your map for a city called Orotina, west of San Jose. From Orotina, ignore signs for "Jaco" and take the road straight, leading to San Pablo de Turrubares (known simply as "San Pablo" or "Turrubares"). You can also follow signs to "Turubari" which is a park on the way to the hotel. About five minutes from Orotina, on the road to Turrubares, you will cross a suspended bridge (don't worry, the bridge is safe). Continue on that road for about 25 to 30 minutes, past Turubari Park until you come to a T intersection. See our sign, and TURN LEFT there. Go 5KM to San Pablo, follow another sign and TURN RIGHT. Go 2KM more and see the hotel on your left hand side. It is easy to find - simply look for the long bamboo and living tree fence and wooden gate. If the gate is closed simply honk, and the guard will open the gate. On your way from Orotina, always stay on the main road, and when in doubt, look for small signs for "Turubari" or the hotel. Either way, when you pass Turubari Park you are about 15 minutes from the hotel. Drive safely!
